Legalizing Pot In California

Scenario:  You’ve got a personal financial crisis.  You’re up to your eyeballs in debt and the alligators are chewing away at your legs.  There’s rent or mortgage, car payment, utilities, food, and don’t forget the mounting credit card debt with escalating interest rates.  What would you need to get a handle on it?  More money.

Ok, so let’s say you get a windfall infusion of cash – some relative died and left you enough money to pay off your bills and get caught up.  Whew!

Pay attention here, providing nothing else comes along like car repairs, an illness and no paid time off at work accrued, or instead of getting a tax refund year you end up owing, or that flat screen TV you’ve had your eye on finally goes on sale, or your mother-in-law moving in with you, or your friends want you to come along on a 3-day ski trip to the mountains, or your next door neighbor can hook you up with a big sack of weed, or…

You see how this is playing out?  If nothing else comes up, you’ll be able to pay off your debt with the money Aunt Mable left you and basically, wipe the slate clean.  And you swear to God that you’ll never let yourself get into that situation again.

Ok, now let’s talk about the dumbasses in CA who what to legalize pot.  They think it’s going to bring in $1 billion and CA’s money problems will be on their way to being solved.

Now let’s take that $1 billion and throw it at the debt.  It will help to some extent, PROVIDING NO OTHER EXPENSES COME ALONG.

Why is CA is so much hurt to begin with?  Too many fucking people.  And ASSemblyman Tom Ammiano can’t see past the $$$ in his blood shot eyes to see that legalizing pot in CA will only…Anyone?  Anyone?  Bueller?  BRING IN MORE PEOPLE TO THE CASH STRAPPED STATE?  The $1 billion will vanish in a cloud of smoke.

If you bring new money in to solve the current problems, you better be damn sure there won’t be any new problems so you can receive the full benefit of the extra cash. But that’s not the way it’s going to play out.

There’s going to be a housing boom so nuclear that it’s going to make the one we just had look like a paper bag popping. Homes will start going up again due to a new influx of new stoners.  And when all for foreclosures are snapped up and they start building again, people will begin losing their jobs all over again only this time it won’t be from the bad economy.  It will be because they got fired for coming to work stoned!

It’s going to destroy the affordable apartment and home rental market (I know, oxymoron in CA). There won’t be a single available dwelling to be found in the whole state.

They “think” they can reduce law enforcement because pot will be legal. BULLSHIT. The other illegal drugs won’t go away. What are cops most likely to go after, hard core drugs or pot smokers? Unless they are busting large growing operations, the current drug enforcement teams prolly don’t even blink an eye at pot use unless they come across it during the other drug enforcement activities. They’re kidding themselves if they think CA will be able to reduce law enforcement.

There will be more car accidents and accidents at work. Everyone will be fucking stoned. Pot is portable and easy to conceal. In addition to ppl going out for a 2 martini lunch, they’ll now be going out for a blunt at lunch.

More kids will be using it because now it will be more readily available, right there next to the Old No 7 in the liquor cabinet.

Social services will be stressed beyond the max with the influx of new people. We don’t have enough welfare to go around for the poor people we already have.

The Sacramento Bee has a poll and it’s already at 82% in favor of legalization.  I don’t give a personal rat’s ass whether or not it’s legal.  I still won’t smoke it.

Like all things that the government wants its fingers in, they only see what’s in front of their dumb little rhinoplastic sunburned noses without any vision of the long-term effects.  No strategic plan.  Nothing bad can happen here.  We live in California.  We are our own country.

At to those 82%, the only thing I can hope for out of this is massive random drug testing at work.  Something similar to Gattica.  You’ll be piss tested to death.  You’ll be invalids.  There will be an economic surge in the drug testing sector.  People, buy stock in the companies that make those test kits now because some day you will be billionaires and will be able be able to buy CA.

This is bad. Very bad politics.  I’m going to need a bigger shovel.

  • Where did you get your blog layout from? I’d like to get one like it for my blog.

Aaron, it’s called fDawn from http://www.fahlstad.se/themes/ However, I made the header image myself.

  • As usual, opinions are very diverse. In any case, whether it may help the economic situation or not, I don’t think that money should be the reason behind legalizing marijuana.

More work and car accidents would be likely, but it would mean reduced crime. If you look at Amsterdam, it does not seem to have any significant negative impact. Users will be users and non users will be nonusers, it is not likely to have any significant impact.

  • The only way it will reduce crime is that smoking pot won’t be illegal, so people previously deemed criminals won’t be. And what about the larger issues. I know a lot of people already do smoke it, but everyone will try it at some point (like cigarettes) if it’s legal and way more people will become addicted costing the state more due to the health issues involved.

Legalize pot in California? The only way it work would be to legalize it nationally. You are correct, stoners would make an immediate bee line directly for California. However, I’ve long thought pot should be leagalized and regulated by the government if for no other reason than to take the money out of it which attracts illegal drug dealers, murder and mayhem.

It’s a naturally growing plant unlike booze which is legal and has probably been responsible for more deaths(by accident or purposely) than pot has ever been responsible for…

What’s the difference…. a raging alcoholic or pothead?
