6 Days Too Late
I removed McAfee from my computers 6 days ago. I got tired of actually GETTING viruses with McAfee. Why, you ask? Because they didn’t have real-time notifications like, oh, I don’t know, FREE AVG does! So every weekend I’d scan and every weekend I saw I was infected all week.
Today I see that Intel bought McAfee for $7.68 billion. Not that it matters anymore because it’s too fucking late, but I hope to God that the Intel engineers are better with software usability than McAfee is. I’d start by firing every fucking one of McAfee’s programmers.
UPDATE: Not long after this, they upgraded the software to include instant infection notifications. Too late.

Hey let’s face it: as announcements go, this one came like a bolt out of the blue. And given how difficult pulling a major surprise on the market can be, that shouldn’t be understated.
On a serious note, there is a lot of consolidation going on in the tech industry, soon there will only be a few big players, intel, symantec, ibm, google, ms etc. What do people think of this – good or bad?
Personally, I think more competition, less giants the better…more innovation, and competition keeps the big boys on their toes.
@Brent, I agree with you on the competition note. The small 40 employee software company I worked for got gobbled up in 2000 buy a Fortune 500 company. The end result is not even remotely similar from where we started out. We used to build custom licensing applications for government clients. After the acquisition, all of that was tossed aside and existing contracts were priced out of reach and clients walked away. There went the very niche market that brought us fame and fortune. No wonder agencies like State of CA Controllers Office are using ancient systems coded by programmers who have long retired. It costs too much to rewrite them when all that’s left to take on a contract that size are the big boys.
I’ll tell you a secret about those big boys, also the reason we were acquired. They have an idea about a project they want to do, but two years later they’re still sitting around the conference table discussing it. That’s when they go out and acquire these little mom and pop operations who are successfully doing it. But in doing so, it takes that little company off the market. fuckers
It’s simple really. McAfee’s software slows down your computer enough that you need a faster Intel CPU. Intel now has direct influence over the main driving factor behind people purchasing new PCs…
@D. Smith, there ya go. Makes total sense.
What a crappy decision. Buying Mcafee? Seriously? Couldn’t you have bought a better cyber security company? They should be buying scammy e-books instead. They could be making $250 a day!!!
That’s so good as I am sure that Intel is really gonna work on it. So you will be more than happy to get it again on your PC.
